Anil Seth
Neuroscientist and populariser specialising in the study of consciousness
With a degree in Natural Sciences from the University of Cambridge and a PhD in Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence from the University of Sussex, he is currently professor of Cognitive and Computational Neuroscience and co-director of the Sackler Centre for Consciousness Science at the same university.
Through the study of consciousness and thanks to the discoveries of recent years, Seth addresses questions linked to philosophy, such as the very question of existence and the experience of the world. According to the renowned scientist, the most recent advances allow us to understand from a new perspective where emotions come from and their link with bodily perceptions, as well as the foundations of the experience of ourselves. Throughout his career, he has been involved in artistic and informative projects such as the immersive film Escape to Reality (2018), the From Body to Being conference (2017), organised as part of the British Science Festival, and the exhibition "States of Mind: Tracing the Edges of Consciousness" of the Wellcome Trust Foundation.
He is the author of several books, such as 50 temas fascinantes de la neurociencia (Blum, 2015) or Being You. In New Science of Consciousness (Faber & Faber, 2021), a journey through the biological basis of consciousness recognised as the best science book of the year by The Guardian and the Financial Times, among others. He is also editor-in-chief of the academic journal Neuroscience of Consciousness (Oxford University Press) and has published more than a hundred articles in publications in fields as diverse as computer science, psychology and philosophy.
